Play it again!

Oops, Twitter did it again!

Apologies; that was beyond the pale.

Ohhhkay; enough humming along to my own tomfoolery, as we have another instructive tale of the tweeting tape.

Twitter.

The Platform that provides one freedom in words, to communicate whatever is on one’s mind, to whomever is reading!

Truth.

However, theory and practice is not so clear-cut. When the prevailing culture actually gives a feral pest about what you offer up; handle with care.

This past Friday night in a SupeRugby sporting context we were given another example of the moment roaming wild!

Roar! Although; this is Rugby Union, not Soccer Football!

Back to the Plot-Line.

After being forced to endure from the sidelines, injured Reds/Wallabies winger, Digby Ioane, would let his frustration run lyrical with the on-line Bird… Word!

Frustrated after an indecisive Keith Brown refereeing performance that would ultimately prove decisive, as double A-ron Cruden would kick the winning points for the Hurricanes; Ioane would tweet the following description of the man in the middle:

“the worst ref ever”

Once a Tweet has been set free, it is futile to try and go discreet, as the Bird has well and truly flown, with interested Tweeps already clicked, RT.

I saw it myself at the time and thought; he we go!

Even though, Ioane was very quick to delete the offending tweet; would apologise; even banning himself from Twitter… for a time, as he has sent a couple since, the damage was done.

The result of all is that Ioane must go before the Sanzar judiciary on the charge of breaching its code of conduct.

Famous does not necessarily mean more freedom.

If you are Brand-aware; what you tweet is a mirror. If you represent; it will reflect!

Digby Ioane is one of the most upfront Rugby Tweeps presently riding the platform wave, and his freedom in tweet is something that I hope he continues; even as he remembers there is a price to pay.

To Skillful Tweeting!

McCawesomeness

Until Next Time

This is breaking news in a New Zealand context.

A matter of moments ago, a Tornado has made landfall in the Albany region of greater Auckland, across the fabled Harbour Bridge.

Thanks to the wonders of social media; news; comments; pictures; and video has been bouncing off the walls in the Twitterverse, with the following the best two videos that I have presently come across.

This is an awesome event, in the “daunting” sense of the term… and a tragic one, as it seems at least one life has been uprooted!

Check these out:

First a link to the best video I have seen to date that provides one with more a bird’s eye view of what took place. You can view this… HERE!

Context is King in Communication and it definitely is in relation to a Tornado. In this first video, the premises and the people are pretty close to the action, yet you wouldn’t realise this from their conditions just outside their viewing window; hardly a breeze.

In this next video; the Youtubers in questions are further away, and equally nonchalant about what is unfolding before their eyes.

This last video, at this point anyway, helps to provide some perspective.

Also; check out an image of the Twister… HERE!

McCawesomeness

Until Next Time

On Twitter this Friday, this Day even, Avatars are going Red n Black in a small social media sign of solidarity and support for our brave sons and daughters stuck in what looks and must feel like a war-zone.

Yes, the Pic to your left is mine.

I have gone with my historic Canterbury Jersey and some words that both encapsulate that moment, while also pointing forward to a new day.

Darker the Night. Brighter the Dawn!

If you are reading this, then chances are you have been affected by this on-going tragedy in our South Island in New Zealand in some shape or form. Whether it be on location in Christchurch, somewhere else in New Zealand, or far from our literally ‘shaky Isles’: if you are on Twitter, please feel free and follow suit!

My avatar is free to a good account, and I know this is not a one person offer.

To give you some idea of what Tweeps are producing, check out the following page where the # is at work… HERE!

While this is one small step for Christchurch, we trust all this noise will send a strong message to our Brethren that they are not alone, further encouraging a leap by many to complete something more practical, tangible, and substantive! When we link hands, there is much power in this One!

Yes, we have their backs, and the proof of this reality will be as they experience that these avatars are for real!

#RednBlackWeGotYaBack

Until Next Time

All who are living in the confines of Aotearoa are aware that this is a significant time in our history.

In time we will remind our offspring of the raw human reality that has violently entered into our consciousness as we reflect with our generation on the date 22.2.11/.

“We Remember,” should be a rolling and rampant refrain as we reflect on this moment, this time, and this maniacal mayhem!

Therefore, given the intersection and cultural significance with our rugbying past-time, as it is socially mediated into and through our world, it is appropriate that… “We Remember“… what has been said, what has been marked by the rugby community on this pale blue dot that is our planet.

We should not be surprised at such realities, as the sporting pursuit encourages such impassions, with Twitter providing the immediacy to allow the emotions to tweet.

Let em Tweet!

We love to read when the spin stops!

As fans, the unfiltered honesty and connection is what speaks, even if this proves louder than some interested parties would find acceptable.

To underscore this perspective, a short time after the event, with a very frustrating opening to their Super Rugby season, after the Hurricanes would go down to the Highlanders at home, Cory Jane would tweet the following —>

“I’m so pissed at playing that sh*t. There is 1 man that was worse than anyone on the field, I can’t say his name (hint) he never got the ball.”

As I live-streamed an audio commentary, one is not surprised with such a response, as Referee Dickinson was definitively calling out an offence.

The account in the Dominion Post goes onto quote Sanzar boss, and fellow Tweeter, Greg Peters,

“As a general rule Sanzar’s code of conduct would see any message on social media as a public media comment, so players need to be careful,” he said. “This serves as a reminder that social media is regarded as an official statement.”

However, just some 30 minutes ago, Jane would affirm the following via his Twitter account —>

@al_nz I only heard bout it from a mate who read the paper.that’s about how told off I got

With the continued rise in this vehicle of the socially mediated world, real time reaction, responses, in the form of tweets is gonna continue to happen.

It seems that sanity has prevailed in this context, although taking Jane’s words at face value, it seems perceived PR sensibilities has encouraged a Twitter-less dialogue and the deleting of the offending tweet; but here is a serious question —>

How far is too far?

In a world of competing commercial interests, is it the money men, most personally and commercially divested from such honesty, who are the ones ultimately influencing the extent of the narrative that a sporting star can communicate?

After all, somebody’s gotta pay?!

As is the case with our humanity, there will be many more moments when the emotion of that moment will tweet.

While there are lines in the sand, when the tweet is sporting commentary in a context that intersects with what has taken place, it certainly adds to the sporting story, and our grasp of the human intersection with the field of dreams.

Are the Refs morally sacrosanct from such outbursts?

If not, and there are still issues, other secondary interests are compelling toward restraint!

In our New Zealand context, we still have strong strictures of etiquette, almost following along with the maxim: what happens on the field, stays on the field.

As in most cases where the status quo moves with a flow, it will probably take a test case or a groundswell of prevailing opinion to change the tenor of what is acceptable.

If the truth be worth the effort, we all criticise the Referee in the comfort of our TV viewing room, where we are the Boss!

I for one, would like to see an increased honesty in our sporting opinions, as we are living in a dream world if we think that such disagreements are not part of what transpires.

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with saying you believe someone got it wrong. However, and on the flip side, the tenor and tone of such interactions tend to too easily descend into name-calling, which makes this shaky ground where even right angles [Yes, I know it is, Angels] fear to tread.

Therefore, there is no easy solution.

Sometimes when you set something free, it may roam where you do not desire or did not expect.

Are we prepared to pay this price?

At this stage, in a New Zealand context, we are wavering between two opinions, seeking to hold the tension between one or the other.

Is this just a reality of life?

Wisdom defined is skillful living, which is a professional calling we all seek to attain… off the field!

In all these questions… What Say You?

Until Next Time

McCawesomeness

A simple and a very subjective question while we’re on it!

Like the opinion of the circumspect design of this blog, it is very much in the eye of the beholder, and one’s basis for Tweeting infatuation will reflect much of what calls your inner person to stand to attention.

In light of this, I ask you to please open up and share which sporting individual you can’t help but follow… in cyber-space, stalker!

While you’re at the mike, don’t just stop there but please also share why!

If this sport billy… Jean has a good following, there is probably a cause and effect relationship between what they are doing and why they have a following. Even though we the plebeians may not have the platform of certain stars, we all have a context to live, a story to share, and a life to unfold… what we need to grasp is how to get this on stage and starring.

Therefore, this process may also help you personally, as you move the spotlight onto your own Tweeting context.

I look forward to interacting.

Until Next Time
